An update from around the world

2144 – Eva sent me this card of Morella, an ancient walled city located on a hill-top in the province of Castellón, Valencian Community, Spain.  Morella is one of the places where there is rock art which forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula’.

2145 – From Monica in Sweden came this Pippi Longstocking picture.  I now have a few Pippi pictures.

2146 – Danielle in the USA sent this postcard of books.  It hardly matters what books are on a postcard it looks attractive and interesting.

2147 – Hetty sent this postcrossing card, a painting by Jan Toorop (1858-1908) of the connoisseur of prints Aegidius Timmerman.

2149 – Debbie in the Netherlands, another postcrosser, sent me an Inge Look card I haven’t had previously.  Hooray.

Hopefully this link will take you to all my Inge Look cards.

2151 – Another one from Monica in Sweden but the folk costume is actually from Valdres in Norway.  Isn't that a splendid picture.

2153 – From postcrosser Michael in Germany came this card of Cologne Cathedral.  The third largest church building in the world, Cologne Cathedral is a UNESCO WHS.

  1. I'm glad that you're blogging here again.

I'm afraid there is a mistake in the description of the first postcard. Although there is a big popular movement to inscribe the city of Morella as UNESCO heritage site, it is not. The "Rock Art" refers to prehistoric mural paintings (some of them near home, but it seems impossible to find a postcard!). The postcard shows the aqueduct that brought water to the city, built during the 13th and 14th centuries. I hope you like it anyway!

    1. Sorry Eva. I didn't mean to imply that the whole of Morella (or the aqueduct) was a UNESCO site. I meant to just point put that there was rock art there somewhere which was part of the Rock Art WHS. I think there are five examples in morella la Vella, Castellón, Valencia, Spain - in the
      Cova del Barranquet
      Cova del Llepus o Partició
      Coveta de la Cornisa
      Galeria alta de la masia
      Galeria del Roure

As for liking the card - yes, I love it!! I enjoy seeing places where friends live or visit, especially when the picture is attractive as well.

    2. I thought it could be confusing. "Morella la Vella" (Old Morella) is just one of the ten parts which belong to the town of "Morella". It's a peculiar medieval form of organisation.

What you wrote is true, of course. However people from the area don't associate specially Morella with prehistoric paintings because the most important ones aren't here but in other villages. We tend to pay more attention to the Middle Ages buildings (the aqueduct, the castle...) of Morella.

And this UNESCO site extends along hundreds of kilometres!

    3. Ah! Thank you for clarifying that. I hope that the City of Morella succeeds in getting UNESCO WHS status.

Welcome. I love it when visitors comment - even if it's only to say "Hi, I've been here!"
