A little selection

Some of these are from as far back as August 2013.

757 from Alina from Dneprodzerzhins'k in the Ukraine (UA-702038).  (Try pronouncing Dneprodzerzhins'k after a drink or two!)

And the stamp has this super inkwell on it.

770 A mail carrier in Puerto Rico from Matt in the USA (US-2347235).  Where a card is received as a result of postcrossing I have included its i/d number so that anyone who wants to ‘Favourite’ it can do so.

775 – From my friend Mish in Belarus to whet your appetite.  It reminded her of one of her favourite childhood treats – bread with butter mixed with garlic and salt.  “Yummy!”

Aren’t these fantastic stamps?

776 – Kerilesen from Germany sent me this picture of a motor post vehicle from Berlin around 1900 (DE-2381999).

778 – Also from Germany came this card from Conni (DE-2377477).  Entitled ‘Read’, the photo was taken by Raffaele Celentano.

789 – Simona sent me this from Lithuania’s first ever postcrossers meet-up.  It was signed by all those who attended (LT-313498).

792 – A Lithuanian postbox – also from Simona.

In 2013, the famous museum in Arles will host an exhibition "Rodin, the light of the Ancient" that will explore cross inspirations, the links forged through the centuries. Rodin wanted to anchor his practice of sculpture in ancient Greek art. His art echoes the plastic perfection and expressive forms; the Greek ideal.

553 – The Ferry Boat at Marseilles

The Ferry-boat: So cherished by the Provençal writer and film director, Marcel Pagnol, leaves from the quay in front of the City Hall to make several daily crossings of the Vieux-Port. The crossings began in June 1880, thus opening the famous passage from the City Hall to the Place aux Huiles, a square located on the opposite side of the port.

These cards all came in the same envelope and these were the stamps used by my good friend Martine.

Fancy a chocolate drink!

Card no 427 – Martine
Banania
Country Card Sent From: France
Place that Card Sender Lives:  Piedogriggio, Corsica
Date Received: 5th March 2013
Distance Travelled:  942 miles
Time Taken: 3 days

Banania is a popular chocolate drink found most widely distributed in France. It is made from cocoa, banana flour, cereals, honey and sugar. There are two types of Banania available in French supermarkets: 'traditional' which must be cooked with milk for 10 minutes, and 'instant' which can be prepared in similar fashion to Nesquik.
During a visit near Lake Managua, Nicaragua, in 1909, the journalist Pierre Lardet discovered the recipe for a cocoa-based drink. When he returned to Paris, he started its commercial fabrication and, in 1912, began marketing Banania with the picture of an Antillaise. Her image was replaced in 1915 with the drawing of a widely smiling Senegalese man.

Martine sent this in an envelope. These were the stamps.
